11 Sep Roquette Cazes launches new edition of iconic Xisto
Only launched in years of exceptional quality, Xisto – Roquette Cazes is considered one of the most emblematic wines of the Douro region. The new vintage 2015 is available in 5600 75cl bottles and 50 150cl bottles (Magnum).
Roquette Cazes, a project that stems from a long-standing friendship story between Jorge Roquette of Quinta do Crasto (Douro) and Jean-Michel Cazes of Château Lynch-Bages (Bordeaux), now continued by their sons Tomás Roquette and Jean-Charles Cazes, just announced the launch of a new edition of their firstborn wine.
The new Xisto – Roquette Cazes 2015, which succeeds the 2003, 2004, 2005, 2009, 2011, 2012, and 2013 harvests, inherits a unique and differentiating profile. Manuel Lobo, from Quinta do Crasto, and Daniel Llose, from Château Lynch-Bages, are the project’s winemakers and are responsible for bringing together, in a true talent duet, the natural characteristics of the Douro with Bordeaux’s ancient winemaking techniques where from the best Grand Crus Classés result.
This is, therefore, a wine that breaks the barriers of language and distance, made from Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca and Tinta Roriz, along with other local varieties from Old Vines planted in the Douro Superior. The selection is taken care of and made by Manuel Lobo and Daniel Llose, who periodically travels to the Douro to visit the vineyards. The vinification process has as its main objective to preserve the natural characteristics of the region and it is using soft pumping and prolonged maceration, thus achieving an intense, well-structured, elegant wine with its own personality and well-marked by its terroir.
Its opaque colour, with a narrow halo of violet / bluish colour, anticipates a seductive nose, proven by the freshness and aromatic complexity, where floral notes stand out in perfect symbiosis with spice notes. In the mouth it is elegant, evolving harmoniously into a wine with a compact structure, composed of silky texture tannins, balanced with wild fruit flavours. Persistent and serious, it goes perfectly with meat dishes, game or recipes marked by spicy flavours. Asks for prior decantation to reveal its full potential and service at 16ºC. It requires prior decanting, to reveal its full potential, and a serving at 16ºC.
Just like its predecessors, Xisto – Roquette Cazes 2015 expects a brief visit to the shelves, as these launches, only in years of high quality, are always marked by huge market expectations, selling out very easily. A success story that confirms Roquette Cazes’ serious commitment to maintaining a project committed to creating great wines in the Douro.
